Here we go...

Hello!  So, it all began a little over a year ago that I was visiting with my neighbor and admiring her beautiful quilts when I thought to myself, "I need to learn how to do this"!  Make quilts that is.  So a few weeks later my neighbor brought me a newsletter for a local fabric shop and told me to look into taking some beginning sewing classes!  This was just the start that I needed.  So, I went to the fabric shop to get signed up and they handed me my class supply list.  The first thing on the list of supplies was a sewing machine.  So, I looked at the lady and said, "Um, what if I don't have a sewing machine?"  As she looked over the rim of her glasses at me she says, "You don't have a sewing machine?"  Well, I borrowed my neighbors sewing machine and off to class I went.  At this point I didn't even know how to turn on the machine.  But after a successful class I was able to complete my first quilt, a nine patch potholder along with a matching apron!

A few weeks later my neighbor took me shopping for sewing machines!  I was so excited to go and thought that there really couldn't be that much a difference between different type and different brands of machines.  Boy was I wrong.  First she took me to her local Bernina dealer and I tried out several different machines, although I really didn't have the first clue as to what I was doing or what to look for.  The first machine that she mentioned would be a good machine for me was the Bernina B580.  I had no idea what that even meant.  So she showed me the machine and I was a bit hesitant and scared that I would screw it up.  I did stitch a few straight stitches since I didn't know how to change it to anything else.  So I collected all types of brochures to do my consumer research and on to the next shop we went.  There I tried out quite a few other machines, trying to them out and comparing them to the first machines that I tried out.  I got more brochures and prices and I was all set to go home and do my homework.  I was so excited to tell my hubby all that I had learned on my little outing and that I had learned there really is a difference in sewing machines!  But the main difference I noticed is how smooth the Bernina machines ran compared to everything else that I had tried out.

So fast forward a few weeks.  There was a sale that was happening at the Bernina dealer and I really wanted to take my hubby to the store so that he could see the machines and hear all about the sale and see the difference for himself.  And it wouldn't hurt for him to hear all about it right from the dealer instead of me trying to tell him all about it.  I was so excited to go to the quilt store as soon as he got home from work so I was anxiously waiting for him.  But when he got home he had all these "things" that needed to be done and he didn't think that we would be able to go.  But first I needed to help him unload the car.  As I opened the car door I noticed two huge Bernina boxes in the back seat!  He had already stopped at the quilt store and surprised me with my first sewing machine, a Bernina B580!!!  I was so excited!

In the next few weeks I took my classes at the dealer to learn how to use my machine and then went on my first shop hop!  So now I have fabric and patterns so I can jump right in and start my first quilt!!  My neighbor helped to teach me how to read a pattern and how to use a rotary cutter and tackle my first project!  (Pictures to follow)  Then I also decided that I should also sign up for my first Block of the Month! That Block of the Month was an embroidery applique class! (This quilt is also almost completed)

With everything that I have learned in the last year, I have decided that I should turn this new found passion into a business!  Recently I have purchased my second machine, a Bernina B880 along with the Quilt Frame and QuiltMotion/QuiltMotion Touch!  Every spare minute that I have I can be found in my sewing room working on a quilt!  I am now in the process of learning how to make this new business successful.  I hope to soon have pictures to post of some of my creations along with information on services and prices.
